Where it began

NYSP started at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) in 2000 as an initiative aimed at providing recreational and educational opportunities for low-income children during the summer.  24 years later, The Right Start continues to help approximately 125 students from selected parts of the Coastal Bend.

“This program gives my children a better outlook on life after they finish school.  Each day, they wake up on their own and are eager to attend.  Once back home, they’re quick to share what they have learned.  I appreciate this program.”

2023 Launch Location

In 2023, The Right Start began a new chapter in the Kingsville community.  With the help of Kingsville Independent School District (KISD) and Texas A&M University – Kingsville (TAMUK), 75 students were able to attend the inaugural year of our program.  Our first year was a SUCCESS!

“Thank you for bringing this program to our community, we didn’t have anything like this here.”   “I am glad my children got to stay active during the summer and learn new things along the way.”
